The Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University (HURI) is a research institute at Harvard University dedicated to Ukrainian Studies.

It was founded in 1973 as a project of the Ukrainian American community in the United States, which sought to create a powerful Ukrainian research center at a well-known university. It was modeled after other Harvard centers established to study foreign countries and regions. Over the years, it has been headed by such famous scientists as Omeljan Pritsak, George Grabowicz, and Roman Szporluk.
The mission of the organization is to spread knowledge about Ukraine in the United States of America and abroad through research in history, language, and literature. Since Ukraine gained independence in 1991, the Institute’s mission has expanded, covering contemporary political, social, and economic issues.
The Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University provides grants to scholars, organizes seminars and conferences, publishes books, and creates such online platforms as MAPA: Digital Atlas of Ukraine and Ukrainica: The Main Database of Ukrainian Studies. The organization also publishes the academic journal Harvard Ukrainian Studies.
The work of the Institute is supported by charitable contributions from many organizations and individuals, including the Petro Jacyk Educational Foundation, Dr. Jaroslaw and Nadia Mihaychuk, and the Temerty Family Foundation.
