The book of memoirs by the prominent dancer and choreographer Serge Lifar (1905-1986), is the first edition of the artist’s memoirs (Du temps que j’avais faim) translated into Ukrainian. The memoirs cover the period from the earliest episodes preserved in the future artist’s memory to the first days when Lifar arrived in Paris. The author depicts the happy scenes of his childhood in Kyiv, surrounded by a loving family, recalls his turbulent adolescence during the years of political upheaval, and creates a vivid picture of the city’s everyday life. The book is a valuable representation of Kyiv in the 1910s and early 1920s, recreated by the author through the prism of his view of the world and events.
The publication includes an article by art historian and director of the Museum of Ukrainian diaspora Oksana Pidsukha, which highlights the life and work of Serge Lifar and reveals little-known pages of his biography. The book is illustrated with rare photographs of the artist and historical photos of Kyiv.
